Our Story …

We are really pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2022 Autumn!! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Wollongong to Mackay.

Henri and I did the 2021 rally as a bucket list item, but whilst on the rally, we became overwhelmed with emotions knowing we are making a difference, we were overwhelmed by the people around us who had lost their best mate, their parents, their uncles and aunts, their siblings and even their own children to cancer.

On the 2021 rally briefing night, Ms Chris McMillan, Chief Executive Officer Cancer Council QLD, spoke to us about the impact Box Rallies has on the fight against cancer and effectively every day Australians. Some of the biggest breakthroughs have been solely funded by people like us doing the rally, but more importantly this couldn’t happen without people like you who sponsor and support us to make it happen. Box Rallies has donated $25 million to the Cancer Council Australia in the past 10 years, but now being a bi-annual event with individual rallies raising $2.9m, the next $25m is sure to come much quicker, the realisation that a “cancer free” future doesn’t seem as far away as it did 10 years ago.

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

You don't know how close cancer can be. I have cancer and struggling at the moment. My brother works with one of your team and is my rock for everything. He hides his pain well but I know it is hurting inside. He runs both my house and his own, while juggling work and time with his family. I hope one day there is a cure. My health is driven by cancer. My brothers is driven by his willingness to help me. I hope for a cure so we can lead a normal life. With your assistance in this cause, I am forever grateful

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
