Our Story …

We are really pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2022 Autumn!! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Wollongong to Mackay.

Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 12th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the 2022 Autumn rally target set at $2,500,000.

These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.

On a personal note, Jenny, the original owner of our car (a gold 1996 C class Mercedes) had passed away from cancer in 2000. The vehicle, Goldmember, has survived and has remained in the family since. Steve and his family feel its an honour that Goldmember can participate in a worthy cause - and in remembrance of Jenny.

Despite the name of this rally, we don't consider Goldmember is one. Goldmember has been well looked after and maintained over its 416,000 km 25 year life. We intend to drive Goldmember to the rally and back home again.

Please don't hesitate and donate !

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

Hi All.

Goldmember has been undertaking some endurance training. Last weekend she did a run to Walhalla and beyond to the Thompson Dam via a dirt track. She did very well on the 400km trip - no issues all, fuel economy was very good too. We rewarded Goldmember by stopping at a few pubs :)

There will be many more endurance and training trips to be performed in the future. If you are interested in taking part in future trips then please contact Nick and Steve on 0400858432 to secure your place.

Good luck Steve but I really don't think you need it after the successful Canonball Run to Erica/Walhalla/Moe/Trafalgar and first outing of your very handy 12V fridge.

Thank you for your generous donation Andy, it is greatly appreciated. You forgot to mention the "North Canal Road" short cut (between the back blocks of Trafalgar and Moe), which resembled something like you would expect to drive along if you were to drive into Chernobyl.

Hi everyone, not long to go before the big rally.

I just want to call out a thankyou or two.

I have been on the hunt for some commercial tyres for Goldmember and due to the size i needed had become uncommon 10+ years ago, it was proving to be a difficult task to achieve. That was until i saw an ad on Gumtree from Tina and Dave who are relocating their cabinet making business to another factory. They were having a factory sale getting rid of some item they no longer need and happened to have a set of 4 tyres that was exactly looking for. I got them for a bargain and after sharing my story about the rally, they also made a donation to our team. Tina and Dave are very down to earth honest people and I cant thank them enough for their generosity. If you are considering a new kitchen reno, cabinets for your bathroom or robes or even a idea's or a design, then please serious consider the services of Dave and Tina, their business website is https://focuskitchensandbathrooms.com.au and return the favour that they did for me.

Call out number 2 is Stuart at Burwood Automotive, He recently fixed the air-conditioning in Goldmember. As you know Burwood Automotive is a sponsor of Goldmember and we cant thank the team enough for all they have done. If you need mechanical repairs or servicing performed on your car, then please consider Burwood Automotive, their website is https://www.burwoodautomotiveandexhaust.com.au

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

 • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
 • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
 • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
